I think both raster programmes are equal. The diffrence is that PS is much more popular and wide spread due to Adobes’ potential to make PS more popular. I think Corel lacks the motivation to further expand PSP.
As a PSP user I have a solid experience of it and accomplished making ANY image work done by PS.
PSP has the potential to grow large – the companies not helping enough.

I never had to read any books for photoshop, and look and my art. I think you can get a more professional look with photoshop, than with paintshop pro.

paint shop is easier, has a warp tool, and doesn’t leave a huge space when using brushes and erasers.

    PSP > Photoshop

    lol good spoof

I prefer Photoshop (wanna become a concept artist), but my dad loves Paint Shop Pro (he manages websites as like…a 3rd job lol)–had no idea there was a war between the two programs.

    I have both. WIN??

  12. Webins Says:

Yeah, but alot of these “millions of users” are non-professionals who pirated the software.

When you can get something for free, then many choose to get the fancier and more expensive stuff, even if they have no use for it’s professional-level features.

You don’t really think all those 15 year olds posting “photoshop rulez” are really using it’s high-end abilities, do you?

Funny vid! I’ve been using PSP since 5.0 and I’ve always thought that it is a non-BS version of Photoshop. I primarily create album covers and promotional material for Southern rap acts so for me It really lends itself well to my medium. I’ve dabbled in Photoshop but truthfully i’m STUCK on the user friendliness of PSP 7.0. I tried the later versions but I think 7.0 is pretty much all i’ll ever need. I also use Illustrator alot and photoshop only to save to PDFs. Bottom line: PSP is comfortable!

  15. SzFeri82 Says:

I think you just got used to PS already. Anyway PSP is also compatible with PS plugins, so PSP users don’t miss a lot.
For example photoshop tutorials (like how to create this&that) can be translated to PSP very easily.

For the every day hobby user psp is better, fast semi easy results. For the advanced professional, photoshop is the way to go. Both will have a beginner scratching their heads. Learn how to layer to start.

  20. Invisionaire Says:

That’s because PSP was made for an average user that needs something done, fast – without having to study volumes of books to figure out where to click once or twice. PS tossed a gazillion tools into a software and called it ‘the best’. I’m sure PSP could do it too, but then people would spend hours, trying to read books on PSP. So what’s the point of that? None whatsoever. If you want to save time, buy Corel. If you want the bragging rights, that you created something with PSP, buy Adobe. ;)

  21. Invisionaire Says:

What exactly in Photoshop, did you master in 2 weeks, opening and closing of the program? ;)

I’d love to see your PS portfolio, please. :)

  22. kcdc Says:

paintshop is more user friendly, but photoshop has more utility for experienced photo editors.

both are great in different capacities. if you’re looking to change the color of a shirt, sure go with paintshop.

If you’re trying to break into “the bizz” and work with other designers, photoshop offers more utility and is the industry standard, which makes it easier to share the source if needed.

  23. PaperCIipProductions Says:

I’d say PSP if you’re just starting, but I prefer photoshop

  24. MiniProductionVids Says:

this video is totally right.. if your a fan of photoshop, then your a fan of reading and trying to find out how to do something…

paintshop is much more pleasing to the eye, user friendly, and a lower cost for a better program.. what more could you ask for!

  25. harthaljas Says:

Photoshop is MUCH more expensive…but its in another league then PSP. If you want a editing software just for the heck of it (im talking about leagal not the pirated guys here) then buy PSP but if your going to make a living with something or wanna try a whole new league get Photoshop. :) Both are good ^^
